Louise PHILLIPS (Roskilde, Denmark)

Louise Phillips is Associate Professor in Communication Studies at the Department of Communication, Business and Information Technologies, Roskilde University, Denmark. She completed a Ph.D. in 1993 at the Department of Social Psychology, LSE, on the spread of the discourse of Thatcherism via the media. She has carried out research on mediatised political communication and the mediated communication of environmental risks, concentrating on the interplay between media discourses and the discourses of media users. She has also worked with the development of discourse analysis as a methodology for research on communication, culture and society. Her current research -and book - project is about the dialogic, interactive communication of scientific knowledge (whereby scientific knowledge is understood in broad terms as knowledge that has its roots in the social sciences, natural sciences or humanities). She is co-author of the books, How media and citizens talk about politics [S├ądan taler medier og borgere om politik, Aarhus University Press] (2004) and Discourse Analysis as Theory and Method, Sage (2002) and has published articles in journals such as Discourse and Society, European Journal of Communication, Sociology and Media, Culture and Society.
