Anabela CARVALHO (Minho, Portugal)

Anabela Carvalho (PhD, University College London) is Associate Professor at the Department of Communication Sciences of the University of Minho, Portugal and a member of the Communication and Society Research Center. Her research focuses on various forms of environment and science communication with a particular emphasis on the mediations of climate change. She has published on topics such as discourses on climate change, the present challenges for science communication and the construction of identities of cities in a number of journals and edited books. Anabela Carvalho is the editor of Communicating Climate Change : Discourses, Mediations and Perceptions, of a special issue of Environmental Communication on Discursive Constructions of Climate Change : Practices of Encoding and Decoding (with Tarla Rai Peterson) and of a special issue of Comunicação e Sociedade on Science Communication (with Rosa Cabecinhas). She was Chair of the Science and Environment Communication Section of ECREA between 2007 and 2010 and is currently one of its Vice-Chairs. Anabela Carvalho is Associate Editor of Environmental Communication : A Journal of Nature and Culture.
