Pieter MAESEELE (Antwerp, Belgium)
Pieter Maeseele (PhD, Ghent University) is Research Professor of Media and Communication Studies at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the University of Antwerp (Belgium). As media sociologist, his research agenda broadly focuses on social and political issues relating to science, technology and the environment in the media, with particular emphasis on the ideological nature of discourses and processes of (de-)politicization. He is vice-chair of the IAMCR Environment, Science and Risk Communication Working Group, a founding member of the International Environmental Communication Association (IECA), and a member of the ECREA Science and Environment Section, the Belgian STS Network, and the editorial board of the ISI-indexed journal Science Communication. He takes part in several European research networks, such as the Platform of Local Authorities and Communicators Engaged in Science (PLACES, FP7) and Bio-objects and their boundaries : governing matters at the intersection of society, politics and science (ERC/COST). His work has been published in International Communication Gazette, Environmental Communication : A Journal of Nature and Culture, Javnost - The Public, Science Communication, Journal of Science Communication and other journals and edited books.
